Every spinal cord stimulator inquiry gets a personal review — and an honest answer either way, free and without obligation.

Claims target the device manufacturers — not your doctor. Some matters may be referred to other lawyers. No settlement has been reached, and most cases are in their earliest stages; every case must be proven on its own facts. Attorney Advertising.

Three different questions get mixed together here — separating them removes most of the confusion. Who can gather information and start the process? Anyone — no document required. Who can sign the retainer? The client, or their legally authorized representative. Who receives the money? The client or their estate, with court oversight where the law requires it.

Starting the process: anyone

No document is required to complete a case review, collect the device card, or talk to us on a loved one’s behalf. Families do this every day.

Signing: the client — or their authorized representative

If your loved one is mentally competent, they sign, even if you did everything else. If they cannot: a durable power of attorney with general or litigation authority typically suffices (we review the actual document, free, because POAs vary); a guardian or conservator appointed by a court can act within the order’s scope; for a deceased loved one, the estate’s personal representative signs — and if no estate is open, opening one is often straightforward.

Practical notes

A POA signed after incapacity generally isn’t valid — if capacity is declining, addressing the POA now preserves options. Spouses do not automatically have signing authority. Send us the POA or guardianship papers with the intake; the review costs nothing and settles the question in one pass.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a POA to call you about my mother’s stimulator?

No. Anyone can start the process. Authority documents matter only at signing, and only if she can’t sign herself.

My POA says “general powers.” Is that enough?

Usually — but POAs vary by state and drafting. Send it with the intake; we review it at no charge.

My father passed away without a will. Can we still bring his claim?

Often yes — an estate can usually be opened and a personal representative appointed. Wrongful-death deadlines can be short; ask promptly.

Can I request my parent’s medical records without a power of attorney?

You can gather basic information and start a free case review on a family member’s behalf without a POA. However, acting for another adult in a claim generally requires legal authority, such as a power of attorney or a court appointment.

Does a medical power of attorney cover signing lawsuit documents?

Not always. A medical POA usually authorizes healthcare decisions, not legal filings, so it may not be enough to sign case documents. The firm reviews your specific POA language to determine what authority it grants and what additional steps are needed.
