Hair Relaxer Lawsuit — Free, Confidential Consultation
African Pride for years? You were told the risk was scalp burns.
Strength of Nature is a named defendant in the federal litigation. One question tells you where you stand.
Active litigation — no settlement. MDL 3060 underway · 12,381 cases pending · filing deadlines vary by state and run from when you knew or should have known.
Did you get relaxers — perms, the white cream — every few weeks, for years?
That one question decides most of it. It seems like nobody ever told you the risk was anything worse than a scalp burn.

Claims are brought against the companies that made and sold chemical relaxers — not against your stylist, your salon, or the person who did your hair growing up. Conversations are confidential. African Pride relaxer is made by Strength of Nature, a Godrej company, which is a named defendant in the federal hair relaxer litigation, MDL 3060, in Chicago. The complaints allege the makers did not warn about chemicals they associate with uterine and ovarian cancer.
One question decides most of it.
Did you get relaxers — perms, the white cream — at least four times a year for two years or more? Roughly is fine.

Lawsuits consolidated in federal court in Chicago (MDL 3060) allege that long-term use of chemical hair relaxers is associated with uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, and related conditions. As of October 2026 the cases are in pretrial proceedings; no trial has been held and no settlement has been announced. The allegations have not been proven, and each case depends on its own facts.
If you are half-expecting an ad, that is a reasonable thing to expect here. What follows quotes no settlement figure and decides nothing about your case; it sets out what is on the docket and what the screening question is.
What African Pride is
African Pride is a broad hair care line — relaxer kits, olive oil and shea butter products, braid sprays, edge control. Only the chemical relaxer products are at issue in the chemical hair relaxer lawsuits. If what you used was the moisturizer or the braid spray, this litigation is not about that product.
A brand name on a shelf is not a claim. What the litigation turns on is chemical relaxer use — how often, and for how long — paired with a specific diagnosis.
Who makes African Pride
Strength of Nature, LLC and Strength of Nature Global, LLC — a Godrej company since Godrej Consumer Products acquired the business in April 2016. The same portfolio carries Motions, Soft & Beautiful, TCB Naturals and Just For Me, the last of those formulated and sold as a relaxer for children. Use that began at five or seven is ordinary in this litigation. What the case asks about is what the company knew and did not print on the box.
Is Strength of Nature a named defendant?
Yes. Strength of Nature, LLC, Strength of Nature Global, LLC and Godrej SON Holdings appear on the first-wave defendant roster in the master docket filings (Dkt. 289) and in current joint-defense briefing (Dkt. 1901) in MDL 3060. Godrej SON and Strength of Nature filed the defendants’ combined motion to exclude the plaintiffs’ general-causation experts for all defendants (Dkt. 1828, May 5, 2026), briefed June 16, 2026 and still undecided.
Strength of Nature Global was also a respondent in the Georgia Supreme Court’s October 2025 relaxer decision holding that that state’s ten-year statute of repose runs per unit sold rather than from the first sale in a series (Burroughs, Nos. S24G1387, S24G1388).
What the complaints allege — and what they do not cover
The master long form complaint (Dkt. 106) and the short form complaint adopted by CMO 7 (Dkt. 175) plead one theory against every relaxer maker: that the products contained phthalates and other endocrine-disrupting chemicals, that the makers knew or should have known, and that the labels did not disclose it.
Searches for “African Pride relaxer hair loss lawsuit” deserve a straight answer. Hair loss and scalp burns are not among the injuries the federal litigation is built around. On November 13, 2024, the court identified uterine, ovarian and endometrial cancer as the core claims (Dkt. 946), and the bellwether track runs on those cancers (Dkt. 1944). Fibroids and endometriosis survive only as standalone claims. No order and no published study reports a disease risk figure for African Pride, or for any single brand.
What the research says
Testing of eighteen hair products marketed to Black women detected 45 of 66 targeted endocrine-disrupting chemicals; 84 percent of those detected were not on the label (Environmental Research, 2018). A 33,947-woman NIH cohort study reported a hazard ratio of 2.55 for uterine cancer among women using straighteners more than four times a year (JNCI, 2022). In absolute terms the same study put uterine cancer risk by age 70 at 4.05 percent among frequent users and 1.64 percent among women who never used these products.
Study findings and adverse-event reports describe associations; they are not verified causation.

Do you meet the screen?
- Used a chemical hair relaxer at least four times a year for at least two years. Every brand counts, in any combination.
- A diagnosis of uterine, ovarian, or endometrial cancer — the three core injuries the trial track runs on (Dkt. 946; Dkt. 1944).
- Records establishing the diagnosis and the timeline.
- Whether you qualify is decided on your own facts, not by a webpage.
Fibroids and endometriosis claims sit outside the current federal trial track. That is the shape of the litigation, not a verdict on anyone’s case: they have not been dismissed as a category, and they are worked up and evaluated separately.
Whichever of those describes you, the rest is a conversation. Two minutes to start, and no homework — no receipts, no box, no brand list, no doctor’s letter. Deadlines are set state by state and generally run from when you knew or should have known; that is a fact to check, not a reason to hurry. You get an answer either way.

Frequently Asked Questions
I used African Pride products but not the relaxer. Do I have a claim?
The litigation is about chemical relaxers. If you never used a chemical relaxer from any brand, the use screen is not met.
My hair fell out after relaxers. Is that the case?
Not in the federal litigation as it stands. The core claims are uterine, ovarian and endometrial cancer. Hair loss and scalp burns are not on that track.
I used African Pride and other Strength of Nature brands.
Ordinary and unproblematic. Multiple products from one maker point to the same defendant group, and the short form complaint lets you name each one.
Has anyone been paid?
No hair relaxer settlement has been announced and no one has been paid. Any page that quotes a dollar figure is estimating. What decides a claim is the diagnosis, the use history and the state’s law — not a range on a webpage.
What does a review cost?
Nothing up front. It is a free, confidential consultation, and there is no fee unless there is a recovery. Some matters may be referred to or handled with other law firms. The attorney’s fee is a percentage of the gross recovery, calculated before case expenses are deducted. Case expenses are advanced by the firm and reimbursed to the firm out of the recovery only if there is a recovery.
